Action Points following the Blue Competence Center's Business Cluster Kickoff 2021

In relation to the Bridges deliverable 10.2 Company Micro-forums, 36 participants from various industries attended the Business Cluster Kickoff and the first order of business was to identify salient issues in the island region of Hitra and Frøya and which action points should be followed up on.

BCC created the Business Cluster (Næringshagen for Hitra og Frøya). It is an innovation company which creates a platform for national networking and collaboration in innovation. 

The workshop was about:

  • Mapping out industry and participant needs
  • Ways in which participants can actively collaborate

 

Action Points from the Kickoff:

What can I use research for?

· Further develop as a company and become competitive.

 

What do I need help with as an employer?

· Communicate to potential employees that the island region is a viable place to move and settle to.

· Maybe there is a lack of job offers for younger people.

· Arrangements for family establishment is a must.

· Professional network, meet like-minded people.

· Get a clearer picture on why someone would choose to move from Frøya and Hitra.

· Facilitation for what singles can do on the island region.

· Facilitation of integration and local language development for international newcomers.

· Recruiting technicians.

· More information about trainee arrangements. There is a need for quality trainee arrangements that can provide longlasting employees

· Put in place something that is similar to the apprenticeship. For example, norwegian 10th graders get to work in different companies to find out what they want/like and then start in the norwegian high school system. KN-Entreprenør has tested this type of arrangement and got the person to start school again with a better understanding of how they want to further their career within the company. The result is a more competent and engaged worker.

· Facebook group for newcomers - to meet, get to know, establish, thrive and stay. They can share their interests. Employers should refer to such a page to new employees so they can get to know others, create a network. Participants recognize that if the social aspect in an employee's life is bad, it can affect mental health, quality of sleep and work efficiency.

· Hitra and Frøya should cooperate better.
